Valentine's Day

1. Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th. 2. This is a popular day for sweethearts to get engaged. 3. Flowers and chocolates are both popular presents to give. 4. It is also a custom to send greeting cards called valentines. 5. Many cards are anonymous. This means you don't know who they are from. 6. People used to believe that birds met on this day to find their mate for spring. 7. A modern tradition is to write a personal message in the personal columns of a newspaper. 8. A popular symbol is a Cupid carrying a bow and arrow. 9. Sending valentines used to be more popular than sending Christmas cards. 10. St. Valentine's Day is named after one of two possible saints.
