A look at human rights

On 14th of April 276 girls from a secondary school in Nigeria were abducted by Boko Haram, a militant Islamist group.
Since then, many people demanded the nigerian government to react and rescue the abducted girls, but the government did nothing so far.
Now they arrested two women who leaded protests and criticized the government instead of chasing the militant Islamist group.
As they now have attention from the international media the government seems to start moving.

I am very concerned that in countries like Nigeria and most of the other African countries people, and especially women have absolutely no rights.
We are all so used to live in a democratic system that I cannot believe what is happening in other countries. It is very good that there are associations like “Human rights Watch” and others who publish it and make it known to the world. So hopefully things start to change.

Champions League

8/5/2014: This year the UEFA Champions League final will be in Lisboa, Portugal on May 24th between the two football clubs of Madrid Real Madrid and Athletic of Madrid. There will be football festivities in Portugal’s capital to attract many visitors, such as a UEFA Champions Museum and a Gallery.

I am sad that Barcelona lost their match and is not playing the final this year, but now I keep my fingers crossed for Athletic of Madrid because it would be a big surprise if they win.

Train-surfing

A reporter from CNN visited a village in South Africa nearby Johannesburg, because many young men between 15 and 25 coming from poor families have a very dangerous hobby there:
 they do train-surfing!
They climb on top of the train wagons and stay there as if they were surfing while the train runs. Many of them get injured or die but they have nothing to do ,no family, no jobs and nothing to do. They say that their friends respect them more when they do this and so they like the risk.

I think this is completely mad but they seem to have nothing else and no future and so they take the risk.

South Korea ferry accident

On April 16th a ferry from South Korea sank between Seoul and a southern island of Jeju. There were about 490 passengers and crew on board, most of them children and teachers from a school in Seoul.
They don’t know the reason for the sinking but the captain instructed the passengers to stay in their cabins and not to leave and in the end they could not escape. There are about 300 people missing or dead.

I think this is a tragedy and I am very sorry for the people who died and their families who suffer so much. It impacted me that they found teenagers tied together with their lifejacket cords because they were afraid to get separated and then they died together. It is so sad.
